Dr. Ife Akinsheye Damon

Founder of The Community-Based Education Movement at Gwynedd Mercy University
Profile

Dr. Akinsheye Damon is a Community-Based Education (CBE) consultant and the founder of The Community-Based Education Movement (cbemovement.com), a global community-action-based effort that is focused on transforming classrooms, schools, and districts into community-centered learning environments that support students with using academic standards as tools to learn about and improve their communities. Her doctoral research focused on perceived and experienced barriers to implementing community-based learning by interviewing ten NYC high school teachers. Ife chose this focus to better understand how to meet educators' needs with successfully implementing CBE. Her mission is to help educators help students help their communities by collaborating with individuals, groups, and institutions to develop strategies for implementing CBE activities into the curriculum.
