Dr. Samara Toussaint’s background as a Haitian-American woman inspired her to become a clinical school psychologist to help increase awareness about mental health in her community. She graduated from St. John’s University with a Master’s and Doctoral degree in School Psychology. While obtaining her doctorate, Dr. Toussaint worked in the community passionately educating and advocating for access to mental health services to community and religious leaders. She also worked in a trauma clinic evaluating and treating clients who have suffered from the effects of physical and emotional trauma. Her dissertation on studying the effects of PTSD in Haitian women who survived the 2010 Earthquake inspired her to become a specialist in generational trauma.
