This presentation will explore the overt and hidden dimensions of the faculty job search process at four-year institutions, and investigate the subtle and invisible ways in which Black women are disadvantaged when they enter the academic job market. Research further argues that once Black women enter the academic job market, they typically have to conceal or censor their marginalized identities, conforming to respectability politics as a means of increasing their job prospects.
